BROTHERHOOD OF MAINTENANCE OF WAY EMPLOYES DIVISION
American Rail System Federation
Dear New Member:
Welcome to the American Rail System Federation of the Brotherhood of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. I am glad to welcome you to our ranks and congratulations!
The Union Shop Agreement between the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) and the Carrier requires that you join the union after your probationary period, approximately 60 days from your hire-in date. Below is a “Wage Deduction Authorization Form” for you to complete and send via electronically. Once we receive your initiation fee, the first month of dues payment and deduction form, we will forward it to the Carrier’s payroll department for automatic payroll deduction in order to remain in good standing with the Brotherhood.
Your initiation fee is ($100.00) and your monthly dues for the calendar year 2024 are ($106.25) per month other than Southern Agreement Employees or Former Nickel Plate Property Employees whose dues will be ($118.25) due to being automatically enrolled in the BMWE Occupational Disability Trust Fund (information can be found on our website https://arsf-bmwed.org/occupational-disability-trust-fund/ ).
If you do not pay your initiation fee, your Deduction Form will not be accepted, and your automatic deductions will not start. We cannot accept cash. However, we can take credit card payments over the phone.
As a new member, please check our Federation’s website at www.arsf-bmwe.org for the latest news, various information including contact information for officers, as well as agreements with your carrier. We also have an “American Rail System Federation mobile app. You can also visit the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes website at www.bmwed.org to view different topics, bylaws, and news etc.
For future reference: Any member who wishes to remain in good standing during periods of unemployment and/or sickness (after they have paid their initiation fee and at least their first month’s dues), may pay dues directly to our Federation by check, money order or credit card in the amount of $6.34 (Non-Working Rate Dues). This means if one is off an entire month you are eligible to only pay the Non-Working Rate but if one was to work any day in a calendar month they would be responsible to pay the full dues rate.
